Although I do not yet have a topic for my final website, I have been thinking about the format and structure I want to use. Obviously I would like to have a home page, on which I would like to put some images (not too many) that are linked to pages devoted soley to the subjects of those images. If I do the family site, each picture could be a family member (probalby the "head" of a new family tree). Or else I could do an interactive family tree on my home page.
If I do the cooking site, I could have a picture of a recipe box that would link to a page with recipes (which would maybe have linked categories of recipes). Other links could include other cooking/recipe sites I like, cooking/ingredient tips, and recipe books I use a lot (citations or something).
Either way, I like the idea of sketching the layout and navigation of the site before I start working on it.

I'm also planning on sketching out the layout and general planning of the site before I totally get started. It seems that is so the way to go for optimum time use and proper organization. Good luck, I'll be interested to see what topic you decide to focus on.
Why don't you make a cooking website with your favorite easy-to-make and not-too-expensive recipes. I'm sure lots of students would appreciate that (I would!) :)
Furthermore, you could bring some samples of each recipe to class. That would not only make you lots of friends but also ensure people visiting your website afterwards - I'm not writing this because I'm always hungry during class...well maybe I'm :)
Johannes, this is a really good idea. I want some cookies. I also like sushi. My girlfriend made some sushi several times. She said it was not difficult.
I'll bring soy sauce.
